Sonko Transferred to Kamiti Maximum Prison

Ex-Nairobi governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko, has been transferred to Kamiti Maximum Prison. Sonko, who was arrested on Feb. 1, 2021, is facing 12 charges including assault and robbery with violence. He has been in police customer for two days now and still waiting for the next hearing on Feb. 4, 2021, which will determine whether he will be freed or not. The former governor is represented by at least three lawyers led by John Khaminwa who, on Wednesday, delivered the report of his client’s transfer at around 4:50 PM. Mr. Sonko spent his last two nights at Gigiri Police Station where he was held before being transferred to Kamiti.

In a video captured yesterday, Khaminwa blamed authorities for failing to follow the protocol during Sonko’s arrest. The lawyer termed the incident, “a gross violation of the constitution.” Sonko is also facing charges related to corruption including misappropriate of some KSH. 10 million.
